The popular Akismet WordPress plug-in reaches 3.1.2.  Akismet is a WordPress plug-in which checks your comments against the Akismet Web service to see if they look like spam or not.  This version is mainly a quick security fix, but also brings about some minor UI and performance updates.

WordPress Designer News, WordPress 4.2.2, Post State Tags, Automattic Buys WooCommerce, Jetpack

WordPress 4.2.2 is now available, this version fixes a critical cross-site scripting vulnerability, which could enable anonymous users to compromise a site, you are strongly advised to update your WordPress blogs immediately.

Post State tags is an interesting new plug-in appearing in the repository that highlights the left border color and background color and re-formats the post status as visual color tags in the WordPress Admin post list view (see screenshot below).

Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, has just acquired WooCommerce. With roughly 7.5 million downloads, it’s easily the most popular e-commerce WordPress plugin.

This one initially passed me by, right at the beginning of the month JetPack has been updated to version 3.5.3, an all important update to fix the Genericons vulnerability.  JetPack describes itself as ‘Your WordPress, Streamlined.’
At over 1million active downloads this popular WordPress Plug-in surely deserves attention.

WordPress 4.1.1 is released – This maintenance release fixes 21 bugs and will auto update. WordPress 4.2 Beta 2 is available for devs.

Jetpack 3.4 is now available and includes BruteProtect – Automatic acquired Parka LLS, makers of BruteProtect a security tool which is now integrated into the Jetpack plugin.

Fancybox plugin hacked, injecting sites with ISIS propaganda – The plugin is currently active on more than 100,000 sites, many are probably not running the latest version, and so if you haven’t taken the message seriously before; keeping your website up-to-date  (including plugins) will stop terrorists, kind-of.

Google update to stop Doorway Pages – Google will soon launch a ranking adjustment to better address these type of pages, websites with large and well-established doorway campaigns might see a broad impact from this change. Google is sending a clear message, don’t create doorway pages that are not unique and useful.

Chrome Fully supports Autocomplete – Now, Chrome fully supports the “autocomplete” attribute for form fields according to the current WHATWG HTML Standard. This allows web developers to label input element fields with common data types, such as ‘name’ or ‘street-address’. Google says Webmasters have increased the rate of form completions on their sites by marking up their forms for auto-completion.

WordPress Designer News – WPS Matt, Thank A Developer, Spam in Forms, Nutella

120 Word Per Minute Matt – Matt Muellenweg on Kitchen Sink WP Podcast uncovers how WordPress started, it’e evolution and that he can type 120 word per minute.

Thank a plugin Developer day – January 28th is officially “Thank a Plugin Developer” day. To celebrate take a look at the plugins you use and love, visit the author’s site and drop them a note thanking them.

WordPress 4.1 recommends plugins – WordPress 4.1 Dinah release bring s anew feature that reccomends new plugins.

WordPress Theme vulnerability – The PageLines and Platform drag-and-drop themes for WordPress have recently been patched for a privilege vulnerability and a remote code execution issue. Best update if you use these themes.

Spam in forms turns out to be a Caching problem – WP Fastest Cache, one of my favourite plugins had issues on two of my websites, some spam bot filled in the contact forms with spam and then got cached, so a new user would see the spam in the form input. De-activate and re-activate to fix.

French court stops child from being named Nutella – The judge ordered that the child be called Ella instead. Our Midwife told us they once had some Portugese parents who intended to call their little baby girl Clamidia.

WordPress 4.1 “Dinah” has been released. The main focus being on helping you write better, with a great distraction free mode.

New TwentyFifteen WordPress theme released. The new TwentyFifteen theme is a lovely minimal blog style theme concentrating on clarity and readability.

Google releases Noto Worldwide Font. Google’s Noto font family is designed be used in every world language, it’s rather nice too.

Digital Web Magazine Closed. After a long track record of quality articles the Digital Web Magazine has ceased to be. Big thank you to the authors.

Andy Budd on Digital First. “as more companies realise their customers’ primary experience with them is online, we’ll see more digital-first-approaches to branding”.

2015 is the year of the monster background image. Most on-the-line mags agree, 2015 is the year of the 3g killing; monster background image.
