The jQuery SIFR Plugin is an addon for jQuery that makes it easy to replace text in a web page with flash text (sIFR).It gives you a function in javascript to replace text in a web page dynamically with sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) text, using native jQuery functionality along with the jQuery Flash Plugin. Looks promising.

Very interesting post from the guys at smashing magazine on designing the back to top link:

“In this post, we showcase the design of “Back to top” links, a forgotten and rarely used link that helps users jump to the top of a given page. A visitor can achieve this effect by pressing the “Home” button on his or her keyboard; however, not every user is aware of that shortcut, and most probably use the vertical scroll bar in the browser for that purpose. As designers, we can help our users out by adding a stand-alone “top” link to our designs.”

The videos from the FOWA conference have been released and theres some great sstuff in there, I find the lessoned learned in web app development often ring true for web design so they are well worth checkin out. I especially like the Work Life Balance or Blood Sweat and Tears and The Future of Your Online Presence was very interesting.

Lets hope the Future Of Web Design videos come out just as quickly in early November.

I have recently suggested to a handful of clients that they should explain what RSS is and how they’re users can use it to subscribe to their content feeds; blog feed, news feeds etc. Nobody explains things better than Common Crafts series of videos in plain English.

For instance I use their “RSS in plain English” video on Designbit, they also have a “what is a blog?” amongst others, I recommend this to my clients as a great way of explaining the technologies. I employ you to add these to your clients websites.

Not related to web design except to say the great thing about today’s test of the Large Hadron Collider an experiment run by many nations costing many millions outlines what I love about what I do and what we do as a race, the voyage of discovery, whether colliding photons or furthering your knowledge in computer programming; discovery and knowledge is what gets me out of bed in the morning and is a wonderful thing and a very human trait.
