Shopify Rocks : Foo Fighters Shop

It’s official, Shopify rocks! if you’ve used it you already know that, but now its official as the new Foo Fighters shop is built on Shopify, the shop is a typical Shopify design easy to use, minimal layout and a user friendly checkout system. Check it out.

I’m a big Foo Fighters fan, I went to see them last year at the Manchester City football club stadium, the show was fantastic, the sound was perfect. Two memories of the gig stand out for me, firstly; We stood midway towards the stage and to our surprise as they started playing the crowd swallowed my wife and me up into the center of a massive lively mosh pit.

Lucy didnt like being in the center of it all, probably the two half naked sweaty blokes either side of us, but I recall my gig shy wife commenting on how pretty and cute it was that some of the crowd brought balloons to pass around the stadium, she didint realize people where throwing condoms at Dave Grohl, very rock n roll.

The other was the sound of one of my favourite riffs of all time at loud volume echoing around the stadium “Everlong”:

New Shopify Theme Design: Onyx

Shopify have released a new theme design called Onyx, its dark and minimal, there’s about 20 default themes in all now and as a starting point in Ecommerce with little budget use a default theme and add your branded header, get some orders flowing and look at your stats and then move to a tailored design.

Shopify Integrated Google Products

Shopify now integrates with Google Product Search (formerly Google Base). Using this free service is a great way to increase product promotion and discovery. Check your admin pages marketing tab and opt in by clicking the check box next to Google Product Search.

New Shopify Sort Order for Collections

Shopify has released a new function that will allow you to design your shop to show a list of your collection items by order of best selling product, this is a Shopify feature I have been waiting for and one I have hacked together in numerous other ways for clients in the past.

Shopify Blog: “We recently added a best-selling sort-order for collections allowing you to sort a collection so that the best-selling products show up first in the collection: a great way to showcase your top performers.

If you are currently manually maintaining a list of best-sellers then you definitely want to take advantage of this new feature. It may also be a good idea to take advantage of this for your frontpage collection so the first thing customers see are the most often purchased items; a popular sales technique that often leads to increased sales for your shop.”

Shopify Announces Shopiads

With ShopiAds, you can advertise your Shopify products at other websites using dynamic ad blocks of different sizes. You can use your Shopify collections to indicate which products will appear on the ad block, customize its aspect, and see which blocks are giving you more benefits.

Shopify Apps Released

Shopify has released Shopify Apps, along with an API for developers. This means shop owners will be able to easily add useful features to their shops and that Shopify developers will be able to create some outstanding apps and better still theres a billing system in place for receipt of payment for the developers.

Shopify Release Vision 4.0

Shopify have released version 4.0 of Vision, their Shopify theme application, I love Vision and shopify and I am excited to see some great new features including support for jQuery ( my javascript library of choice), different aspect ratios for products and updated the product options amongst others.
