A quick way of getting ahead of other local web designers in the Search Engine Results Pages is to add your company to Google Maps. When someone undertakes a search that contains a geographic keyword, for instance “Web Designer Lincolnshire” – A mini Google Map will appear on the first page of Google with all the service providers pin pointed.

It’s a quick and cost effective way of getting a top placement for your keywords; Google Maps get’s you sales.

It’s worth noting that with the popularity of mobile devices that Local Search is set to become vitally important to many business wanting to encourage sales, especially local sales. Google Maps and other Local Search services can give you an edge.

A typical Google Map results page will show a handful of search results dropped onto the map, each business represented as a pin. This is followed by a listing of local business that have added their Google Maps pin onto this location. The listing shows the name of the business, their different contact details, more importantly, it shows customer reviews by other Google account holders.

It seems Google Maps orders the listings by yet another super-secret algorithmic formula; but I have noticed that business with lots of reviews; and a well SEO enhanced listing usually get top spot.

So encouraging your clients to give you a great Google rating has become a great way to encourage local sales.

Google has decided that its users of their well-liked Google Maps service will begin becoming charged a fee for utilizing their service. Websites that are going embedding a Google Map of their location will be charged a fee for usage. This new Google Maps fee is going to hit mostly the bigger companies, particularly the Travel industry. I suspect that certain websites that are the heaviest users would be websites like TripAdvisor and Expedia.-..
