I used to use Joomla a lot - agreed it is powerful & very customizable....but it is also bloated and frustrating to work with as a designer/coder.

I think we'll start to see a new generation of CMS coming through soon that are still as powerful/flexible but are easier to bash into submission when it comes to creating layouts.

For now, I'll carry on using my own CMS!

I have been using a godaddy blog product for several years and need to step it up a notch. I have found a lot of comments and reviews on Joomla and Wordpress to be quite 'partisan'. I think you have created a very credible distintion between the two and that has been helpful to me.

Thanks

I think a lot depends on the goals and functions that you have for the website. I currently maintain a Joomla site for my sorority; and I could not imagine accomplishing all that we do on the Joomla site through Wordpress. With that being said, my #1 pet peeve about Joomla are the security issues caused by the 3rd party extensions. There are quite a few extensions that seemed to provide options and features that would be helpful, but caused too many problems when deployed within the site. You have to be a "tinkerer" when you use Joomla where as you can be a hobbyist with Wordpress and still get a beautiful, functional site!
