I used to use Joomla a lot – agreed it is powerful & very customizable….but it is also bloated and frustrating to work with as a designer/coder.

I think we’ll start to see a new generation of CMS coming through soon that are still as powerful/flexible but are easier to bash into submission when it comes to creating layouts.

For now, I’ll carry on using my own CMS!

Great comparison, we have been deploying mostly Joomla web site for our customers and especially love the part with addon easily found on the web.

I have been using a godaddy blog product for several years and need to step it up a notch. I have found a lot of comments and reviews on Joomla and WordPress to be quite ‘partisan’. I think you have created a very credible distintion between the two and that has been helpful to me.

I think a lot depends on the goals and functions that you have for the website. I currently maintain a Joomla site for my sorority; and I could not imagine accomplishing all that we do on the Joomla site through WordPress. With that being said, my #1 pet peeve about Joomla are the security issues caused by the 3rd party extensions. There are quite a few extensions that seemed to provide options and features that would be helpful, but caused too many problems when deployed within the site. You have to be a “tinkerer” when you use Joomla where as you can be a hobbyist with WordPress and still get a beautiful, functional site!
